I don't know when it started, maybe after the epidemic, there has been a "tourism boom". As long as it is a slightly popular tourist attraction, it is always crowded during holidays.
In this situation, the choice of holiday destinations is particularly important, and "crowd flow" has become one of the factors that must be considered when it comes to travel experience. This time, the travel time is the first two days of the May Day holiday and the first day of the May Day holiday. We left one day to experience the crowd flow during the holiday, but it was not completely staggered.
After a long time of consideration, we finally decided to go to Taizhou. Taizhou's tourist attractions are very scattered, with mountains, sea, and ancient cities. But we only have three days, so we chose the sea and the ancient city, and we will visit the mountains next time!
Wenling#
The main attraction in Wenling is the small fishing village by the sea. When we arrived, it was the two days before May Day, and there were not many tourists, which also allowed us to catch a glimpse of the locals' daily lives.
Let me make a bold statement: this place is not suitable for most people to travel. If you come to the seaside for a trip and want to eat seafood, then Weihai, Yantai, and Qingdao in Shandong are definitely better choices; the transportation and travel experience here are not optimistic, with narrow roads, and you can feel a strong fishy smell as soon as you enter the village; there are not many tourist attractions, only a small section along the seaside, and it is greatly affected by the weather. If it rains, you can only stay in the hotel.
But if you travel to experience the local culture and style, this place is not bad. There are probably not many small fishing villages like this in the whole country. Most of the villagers here are doing their own jobs, and you can observe their lives up close.
In terms of transportation, it is best to drive by yourself. After taking the high-speed rail to Wenling Station, we took a bus for an hour and a half to Ruoshan Station. The roads here are not very friendly to cars, so if you drive here, it is best to find a parking lot to park your vehicle and rent an electric car. This will not only make transportation more convenient, but also allow you to feel the gentle touch of the sea breeze up close. The owner said that our electric car is brand new, with a rental fee of 80 CNY and a deposit of 800 CNY.
As for the beach, we went to Pearl Beach, but we were refused entry to Jinsha Beach because we were three minutes late. But compared to other beaches, the beach here is not very big, but it is enough to take beautiful photos.
Riding an electric car along the small road by the sea is a very wonderful feeling. Every time you turn a corner, the sea you see is different.
In short, if you are near Taizhou and want to find a place to see the sea on the weekend and experience a different cultural environment, this place may be a good choice.
Linhai#
When it comes to tourism in Linhai, the main attractions are the Linhai Ancient City and the Ziyang Ancient Street, and it is enough to allocate one day for them.
Donghu#
The entrance fee for Donghu is 15 CNY, and there are some gardens inside. Personally, I'm not very interested, so I quickly walked through it.
The lake is indeed beautiful and gives a refreshing feeling.
In the park next to it, we even encountered a stray peacock, which was quite rare.
Going out from the north side of Donghu is one of the entrances to the ancient city wall, Lansheng Gate.
Ancient City Wall#
The entrance fee for the ancient city wall is 60 CNY, and the combined ticket with Donghu is 70 CNY. The ancient city wall requires climbing stairs, which may be a bit difficult for people who don't exercise much. The ancient city wall is just as I imagined, not as magnificent as other tourist attractions, but gives a sense of dignity and solemnity.
As for the route, we went up from Lansheng Gate and went down from Xingshan Gate, which is also the route I recommend.
The stairs at Lansheng Gate are very steep. Although it is a bit tiring to climb uphill at the beginning, it is better than feeling weak when going downhill. It takes about 1.5 hours to complete the entire journey quickly. Along the way, there are several enemy platforms where you can climb up and enjoy the scenery, but these enemy platforms seem to have no special features.
Ziyang Street#
We visited Linhai Ancient City on May 1st, even though we had chosen a relatively unpopular city for tourism, the number of tourists still made us uncomfortable. Especially Ziyang Street, you can feel it:
There is not much to say about Ziyang Street. It has become a very commercial street, with snacks and specialties on both sides. It would be a pity if you don't walk through it, but after walking through it, you will feel that it is tasteless.
Eating and Drinking#
When you come to the seaside, you naturally want to eat seafood. The owner of the homestay said that you can find any nearby restaurant. We sat down in a small shop opposite the homestay and ordered three seafood dishes: boiled sea snails, stir-fried razor clams, and stir-fried squid, a total of 170 CNY.
The sea snails were not processed much and were directly put into the pot. We picked out the meat with toothpicks and dipped it in soy sauce and vinegar to eat. The meat was okay, but the reproductive glands and other parts were slightly bitter and not easy to eat.
The stir-fried razor clams and stir-fried squid were too light for me, and I didn't enjoy them.
So we went to another barbecue restaurant nearby.
The salt and pepper mantis shrimp cost 58 CNY and tasted delicious, but the mantis shrimp may not be fresh (I learned how to peel shrimp from Xiaohongshu, but I couldn't reproduce it). The barbecue was also good and reminded me of my childhood.
It was rare to have breakfast, so we sat down in a small shop next to Linhai Ancient City and ordered dumplings, roasted ginger juice, and braised tofu.
The dumplings cost 15 CNY for 12 pieces and are larger than regular wontons, but they are relatively light.
The roasted ginger juice costs 20 CNY and is very special. It contains meat and walnuts, and the ginger flavor is strong.
The braised tofu is ordinary but delicious, and it only costs 1 CNY. As someone from Shanghai, I shed tears.
We ate a lot of snacks in Ziyang Street, and it was a pity if we didn't try them, but after trying them, we felt that they were tasteless.
"Pao Xia" is a kind of pancake with meat and shrimp, which is okay.
"Mai Xia" is a kind of noodle dumpling with shrimp, which is similar to Dongyang Womian.
"Wu Fan Ma Ci" is a kind of glutinous rice cake with sesame and red bean paste inside.
We also had hot pot and sour fish in Linhai. The prices were indeed not expensive. The prices in small cities are really enjoyable.
